A fume hood is defined as a ventilated enclosure that, when connected to a properly designed laboratory ventilation system, will carry the undesirable effluents (generated within the enclosure during a laboratory procedure) away from the laboratory personnel and out of the building (SEFA 1-2002 Laboratory Fume Hood Defined).

Genie fume hoods come standard with a chain driven safety glass sash which has been shown to provide greater strength and durability than the obsolete steel cable still found in many other hoods.

Slimline Model
Genie Scientific, Inc. offers the "SlimLine" bypass fume hood. This type of hood is made unique in that it allows air to enter into the hood while the sash is fully closed via a bypass system utilizing the front panel at the top and the airfoil at the bottom. By providing an additional path for air to enter, this limits the maximum velocity thus decreasing the risk of turbulence within the hood which would interfere with experiments. The SlimLine was designed for laboratories that require a larger work surface within the hood environment without taking up more space and the narrow design of the hood allows easier installation by enabling it to fit through the width of a standard doorway opening.
The SlimLine is designed with 4" side walls, the superstructure is of heavy gauge steel with powder coated steel upper panel and airfoil. The laminated safety glass sash is chain driven for a smooth efficient movement. The SlimLine can be used with a remote exhaust fan or is available with a built-in fan(3' and 4' models).

Powerhouse Model
