Monster Laboratory Fume Hood

Genie Scientific recently finished constructing the largest walk-in fume hood ever built by the company. It is a behemoth standing 14' tall 23' wide and 5' deep. It was built for MECS Global of Chesterfield Missouri.

MECS Global is global leader in sulfuric acid process technology and related high performance products custom engineered for acid plant environments. They will be using the fume hood to conduct environmental testing.

"This was a fun project to undertake," explained Sinisa Grobin, Genie's head engineer, "After we calculated the proper dimensions it was just a matter of scaling our normal size walk-in up and fabricating much larger pieces than normal."

Doubling the size of a standard Genie walk-in the doors stand 14' tall and the fume hood is equipped with 148 120V electrical outlets, 12 220V electrical outlets, four vapor tight fluorescent light fixtures and four stainless steel duct collars. It has a 2" stainless steel containment tray topped with a 1.5" Strongwell fiberglass grating designed to allow workers to safely stand inside the hood. Stainless steel lattice is also be hung inside.
