All Genie lab fume hoods are equipped with safety glass sashes operated by chain driven sprockets and axles. The sash in connected to a rear-hung steel counterweight system by a hardened steel chain. The chain runs from the sash to the counterweight over a dual sprocket axle system. This configuration greatly increases sash performance almost completely eliminating sash failures like tilting and creeping.

The most common and basic sash option is a simple safety glass sash that only opens vertically. This is what you see on most lab fume hoods. Another option is having a split sash system. The split sash offers two vertical sashes with a disappearing center post. This allows for the sash to be closed on one side of the hood while the other is open. There is also a combination vertical and horizontal sash. The sash has horizontal windows that can be opened while the vertical sash is closed.
